Scarli Palace
The Scarli noble family came to Modugno and Bari at the beginning of the XVI century from the North of Italy.

It was among Duchess Isabella D’Aragona’s retinue, a duchess described by historians as a beautiful woman. Lots of famous painters (among them Leonardo da Vinci) also portrayed her.

At the beginning of the XVII century the Scarlis built the homonymous palace on a land given by Queen Bona Sforza to Primicerio Vito Pascale, her faithful secretary in Warsaw. The great old renaissance palace, for its wide court and rooms, was very often a meeting point for chamber music events performed for Scarli, Cornale di Crema, Cesena e Cataneo di Lombardia families, etc…

The Scarli family stayed in Modugno for over two centuries. In some rooms of the palace looking on Piazza del Popolo (now Scarli’s stringed instrument making seat) did it give hospitality to skilful artisan shops who moulded with learning raw materials for the production of wicker baskets, ornaments and pottery manufactured articles.
